Enter a wonderful world of gingerbread

It wouldn't be Christmas in Alsace without gingerbread! We head to Gertwiller to discover all the secrets of this delicious tradition. For more than 200 years, Fortwenger have been making sweet Alsatian treats to savour all year long. But when Christmas comes, all ages line up to enjoy the fragrant flavours of this very special bread. In the heart of the Gingerbread Palace, we dive into an exquisite universe covering more than 800 m². The colours and aromas entice our gourmet side. We also find out that everything is made by hand here. We can't wait for the decorating workshop and, of course, the tasting!

Enjoy a dampfnüdel at the Haguenau Christmas market

The Christmas market in the town of Haguenau is a not-to-be-missed stop. The lovely décor includes adorable wooden chalets made by town carpenters with trees from nearby Haguenau forest, a Forêt d'Exception® and one of the largest forests in France. Be sure to taste the local speciality: dampfnüdel are delicious steamed buns that are lightly caramelized and sprinkled with cinnamon. Try the sweet version made with apple sauce or fruit in syrup, or the savoury version with soup and vegetables. A gourmet break on your itinerary of holiday festivities.

Savour a starred soup at the Strasbourg Christmas market

Every week, regulars of this starred soup share their thoughts: What’s the name of this gourd? And what’s this unique flavour? To find the answers, we head to the stand where chefs serve passers-by with a big ladle. As we taste a spoonful, the chef reveals the secrets of his starred soup: coconut lemongrass and a few drops of Riesling. Every week in December, on Place Kléber in Strasbourg, Michelin-starred chefs take turns serving up their original soup. And it's for a good cause: the profits from this starred soup help finance integration projects.

Sip on a gourmet glühwein at the Obernai Christmas market

In the heart of the Obernai Christmas market, the great winemakers' cauldron has long attracted lovers of both glühwein (mulled wine) and conviviality. Tradition dictates that here in Obernai the recipe is made with white wine. Connoisseurs will be able to smell and taste a slight tartness. The winemakers of Obernai who serve the comforting elixir around the great cauldron promise a moment of conviviality and sharing. We know that what really matters isn't the colour of the wine, but the flavours of the encounters.
