Experience the magic of Christmas in the city where the Christmas tree was born...
By opening the accounts register of the City of Sélestat, whose archives are carefully preserved in the Humanist Library, a handwritten mention is made, on page 239, of a tradition which today asserts itself well beyond borders ... "... also 4 schillings to the forest guards to monitor the but from the Saint Thomas". This is the oldest known written reference in the world referring to the Christmas Tree. And if the Selestadian history does not reveal all the evolutions and anecdotes related to the decorations and the ornamental traditions of the Christmas tree, she echoes them through the exhibition presented in the nave of the Church St. Georges entitled "The decorations of the Christmas tree since 1521"
