" Lieu de recueillement pour ces 8000 soldats allemands tombés lors des deux guerres mondiales. "
The fighting that took place between 1914 and 1916 to conquer the ridges of the Vosges and the site of the Hartmannswillerkopf "Vieil-Armand" (battlefield above Cernay) was particularly deadly. This cemetery was built in 1920 to bring together the remains of German soldiers scattered across southern Alsace. More than 8,000 graves are housed in Cernay.
